PrizePicks: state-by-state expansion under scrutiny

A daily fantasy sports operator expanding market by market needed communications that could move at the speed of sport while holding up under regulatory attention.

Business context

PrizePicks grows by entering markets one jurisdiction at a time, each with its own rules, local press and political temperature. Every entry is simultaneously a consumer launch and a regulatory conversation.

The challenge

The same announcement reads as growth news to sports media and as a policy question to business and local desks. A message that plays well with one audience can create exposure with the other, and speed makes that risk worse.

Cast's role

A market-entry narrative applied per state, sports and business media relationships, executive visibility, and issues preparation ahead of each launch.

  • Repeatable market-entry narrative and local adaptation
  • Sports, business and local media programme
  • Executive visibility and spokesperson preparation
  • Issues and regulatory question preparation
  • Sponsorship and partnership announcement support

Strategy

We built one entry playbook rather than one campaign per state: fixed core messages, a local proof layer, and a pre-approved position on every predictable regulatory question so nothing had to be improvised at launch.

Execution

Each entry ran the same sequence with local substitutions, which cut preparation time and kept the company consistent across jurisdictions with different rules.

  • Pre-launch local briefings and relationship building
  • Launch-day announcement and reactive coverage
  • Prepared responses for regulatory and integrity questions
  • Sports moment and sponsorship tie-ins

Attribution boundary.
Outcomes are stated qualitatively because regulated-category figures need legal review before publication. These descriptions exclude syndicated pickup and are not a claim that PR alone produced revenue.
